Newcastle police found a gruesome scene this morning (October 2), when the body of a man was found next to the Allen Street Bridge, by Trim Park.
According to Communication Liaison and Marketing spokesperson, Jabulani Ncube, a passerby notified police after she saw the man lying on the grass.
“The man sustained a fatal stab wound to the left of his chest, as well as an injury to one of his eyes.”
While the motive of murder could not be confirmed, it was speculated robbery was a contributing factor.
“The victim’s shoes were missing, but he was still wearing his socks,” claimed a source at the scene.
It was believed the man was murdered during the course of Sunday night (October 1), as rigor mortis had set in.
“The victim has not been identified as yet, nor do we have any suspects. But a murder case has been opened, and the SAPS are investigating the matter,” Captain Ncube confirmed.
