Police urge residents to keep a look out for ‘double-cab’ electricity-check-scamsters

The double-cab has tinted windows

The Dundee Police have urged residents to be on the lookout for a group of about five people, who are travelling around in the area in a grey double cab, under the pretext of checking domestic electricity meters.

Police said they had already received two complaints this week.  “The double cab has tinted windows.  Unfortunately, at this stage we do not know the make of the vehicle,” said police spokesman, Captain V Mbense.

The modus operandi is for the conmen to gain access to a house by telling the domestic assistant that ‘the boss of the house sent us to check the meter’.

The Endumeni Municipality has employed KVA/Cascade Electrical to check all electricity meters in the area to clamp down on electricity theft. However, these workers wear uniforms that are clearly marked and carry ID.
