Motorists come to a dead end at unsightly scenes in Peacock Crescent

While these roads might not feature regular traffic and are home to few houses, residents have asked if that justified allowing the roads to perish.

Are lesser used roads being left to deteriorate?

This is the question residents have asked, after images were posted to social media showing the littered and broken state of some streets in Aviary Hill.

Front and centre is Peacock Crescent.

The street appeared to have become a dumping locale for residents, with the road surface and verges trashed with general refuse, garden trimmings and building waste.

In fact, the area is in desperate need of municipal attention.

Peacock Crescent encloses numerous other roads: Suikerbekkie, Stork, Kokkewiet and Troupand Streets as well as Hadida Crescent.

All of these are either potholed, rutted or severely deteriorated.

Suikerbekkie Street near the Peacock intersection is so broken, it is almost impossible for a regular vehicle to use that portion.

The other streets are riddled with potholes on the lower sections.

While these roads might not feature regular traffic and are home to few houses, residents have asked if that justified allowing the roads to perish.

“Why would anyone want to develop here, when the roads look like this?” one resident exclaimed.

This matter was reported to the municipality for response and action – inspection this week seemed to indicate some of the refuse was removed this week.

However, no reply was given by its leadership.

The municipality was specifically asked how often Peacock Crescent and surrounds were cleared of refuse and litter, how the matter would be mitigated as well as questions on road maintenance.

All went unanswered at the time of going to press.
