The KwaZulu-Natal Stock Theft Units will intensify its operations as we approach the festive season, in order to curb the theft of livestock in the province.
Various anti-crime operations, including roadblocks, stop-and-search and high visibility patrols will be conducted throughout the province.
Livestock owners are urged to be vigilant at all times and to monitor their stock. This warning came after SAPS arrested four suspects for stock theft in Madadeni Section 4 on October 12.
It is alleged members of Crime Prevention Madadeni were conducting patrols when they received a tip-off that people were busy slaughtering a cow in Section 4.
The police proceeded to the scene and noticed a suspicious looking motor vehicle, which was occupied by four suspects.

They searched the vehicle and found the carcass of a cow loaded in the back. The suspects were questioned and were unable to give a satisfactory account of where they got the cow from.
The police arrested the four men for suspected stock theft, and for being in possession of the carcass of the cow without ownership documentation. All four suspects will appear in the Madadeni Magistrate’s Court soon.
According to the SAPS, livestock owners should ensure they brand their cattle, donkeys and horses, as per the law.
“The police will act against those who fail to brand their stock.”
Stock Theft Units throughout the province were willing to assist community members to brand stock, should they require assistance.
SAPS are asking members of the community to report any stray cattle, as well as suspected livestock thieves to their nearest police station.
