With the high temperatures that accompany this time of the year, police have noticed that criminals are taking advantage of people’s need for a cool breeze blowing through their homes. The modus operandi with regards to entry points into the home shows that criminals are taking advantage of the vulnerability of open windows and doors. An appeal is made for residents to be aware of the fact that their vulnerability to crime increases if easy access to their property is perceived.
In the case of properties which are more secure, police have found that some criminals pose as workers of various companies or government departments in order to gain access.
Residents should make certain that those who wish to gain entry to their property are indeed who they say they are and do represent the company they say they work for. Do not hesitate to make calls to find out this information and if in doubt, report suspicious behaviour and persons to the police.

When it comes to your vehicle, please ensure that the windows are closed, the vehicle is locked and that any loose or valuable items are either removed from the vehicle or locked in the boot. Be alert and check to see if anyone has seen you move the items to the boot.
Criminals often watch their potential targets before striking. If you use a central locking remote with your vehicle, police advise that before leaving the vehicle, physically check whether the doors did lock or not. This simple task will alert you to whether a jamming device is being used on your vehicle.
Report suspicious behaviour and activity.
Should you need to park your vehicle overnight or for extended periods, it is always better to remove all loose and valuable items from the vehicle altogether. Rather leave your vehicle in a secure area than leaving it out in the street.
Please remember that the harder it is for a criminal to access your vehicle, the less appealing your vehicle becomes as a target.
