Madadeni Regional Court sentenced a 28-year-old man to life behind bars, after he was found guilty of raping a 10-year-old child in January 2015.
According to the victim’s mother, she realised something was wrong when she noticed the suspect giving her child R1.
She questioned her child as to who the man was, and why he was giving her money.
The child informed her mother who the man was. However, no harm had been done to her at the time.
Towards the end of January, the child then informed her mother the suspect had given her R1 again and had led her to his house where he proceeded to rape her.
The mother immediately reported the incident to Madadeni SAPS, and the case was handed over to Newcastle FCS Unit.
The suspect was arrested shortly after the incident and kept in police custody until he was successfully trialed and sentenced on October 17.
