The educators who were tragically killed in the shooting that took place on Tuesday morning, October 31, near Ladysmith have been named.

The following deceased were all Ladysmith educators and passengers in the taxi:
– Ms Helga Bonisile Zandile Ziqubu (aged 48);
– Ms Jane Khethokuhle Thwala (aged 45);
– Ms Sizakele Maureen Mavimbela (aged 37);
– Mrs Zandile Annastasia Dlamini (aged 47).
Two teachers are still in hospital and recovering from the injuries they sustained.
The driver of the taxi has also been named as 23-year-old Sanele Mqapheli Tshabalala. A Lasher Tools general worker was the sixth person killed in the taxi. He has been named as Sphamandla Vusumuzi Nkomonde (38).
According to police, no arrests have been made so far regarding the shooting. It was incorrectly stated by police that a 12th person had died. The death toll in the mass shooting / crash remains at 11.
Police also officially named four of the deceased in the bakkie. They are:
-Mr Christopher Mzikayifani Ngobese (aged 64), deputy chairperson of the Klipriver Taxi Association from Matiwaneskop.
Ms Nozipho Ngobese (aged 33) from Matiwaneskop (daughter of deputy chairperson);
Mr Mthembeni Mkhize (aged 36) from Hillcrest (security guard);
Mr Buyane Amon Gama (aged 37) from Matiwaneskop (the driver).
Police have not yet officially identified one male security guard who died in the bakkie.
