Three suspects who were armed instructed the driver to stop the vehicle before they climbed inside the truck and ordered the driver to continue driving for a distance. Upon approaching an off-ramp, the driver was forced to stop the truck close to nearby bush.

“The suspects then began off-loading the luxury vehicles. Police officials from Winterton saw the activity in the bushes and went to investigate,” explained police spokesperson Captain Charmaine Struwig.
When the armed suspects spotted the police approaching, they opened fire and police retaliated.
“The suspects fled in one of the vehicles they had already off-loaded; leaving the other vehicles they had intended to steal behind. It is unknown whether any of the suspects were injured in the incident but no police officers or occupants of the truck were injured. Police are searching for the suspects and the stolen vehicle, a Mercedes C-class. A case of hijacking is being investigated,” added Captain Struwig.
