Newcastle 911 CPF has had an early start on November crime, and consolidated the past weekend’s crime round up.
November 1:
Newcastle 911 received a call of a woman who had been robbed of her cellphone at knifepoint, in the Bosco parking area. Members gave chase and caught the suspect in the Mosque parking area, and recovered the cellphone. The SAPS were summoned and the suspect was detained.
November 1:
While conducting patrols, a Newcastle 911 member witnessed a stabbing on the Allen Street bridge. SAPS K9 unit quickly responded and assisted the situation. However, the two men and a woman who were involved, managed to escape. The victim was treated and taken to Madadeni Provincial Hospital for further medical help. While still at the scene, SAPS saw two men. They approached them and stopped them for questioning. While questioning them, a cellphone rang and the suspect answered the call. The SAPS officer overheard the caller saying “this is my phone and it was stolen from me” SAPS took the phone and spoke to the caller, who informed him that his cellphone had been stolen earlier that evening. A Newcastle 911 member was dispatched to pick up the victim, who then positively identified the two suspects who had robbed him at knifepoint.
The victim opened a case of robbery, and the two suspects were arrested.

November 2:
Members of the CPF received information of a burglary in progress in the CBD area. All available units responded, as well as SAPS and one suspect was arrested. The other suspects fled on foot and are still at large.
November 3:
Members received a call informing them that a resident got home and found an intruder inside his house. However, the suspect managed to escape. Members of the CPF were dispatched and managed to apprehend the suspect a short while later and he was handed over to the SAPS.
November 4 :
While on patrol Newcastle 911 members received a call about a heavy motor vehicle, believed to be carrying industrial chemicals, which had overturned on Faraday Street and the driver had fled the scene. The Fire and Traffic Departments, as well as SAPS, was dispatched to the scene of the incident. The driver was later located nearby, with severe bleeding, and was transported to hospital.
A note from Newcastle 911 Management:
“Members of the public are requested to please make sure of a situation before calling it into the 911 Control Room. We do receive calls requesting our help at specific addresses, but when members get there, all is quiet.”
The CPF also urged members of the public to be cautious of suspicious people and vehicles in their area. “When calling it into the Control Room, please try and give a detailed description of the make and model of a vehicle and registration number if possible. Also, with people, please try and give a detailed description of the clothing being worn.”
All 911 members who respond to complaints use their own transport and at their own cost.
