Murder outrage prompts R50 000 reward

He was hit at least 10 times and numerous spent cartridges were found at the scene. Some of the rounds also struck his vehicle. He was taken to hospital by relatives but died en route.

Two shocking assassination-style murders in as many weeks have prompted Dundee detectives to offer a substantial reward for information that will bring the perpetrators to book. The gunning down of a Congolese national and the murder of a Sibongile man sent waves of disbelief through residents, prompting some to comment that ‘we thought gangsters’ paradise was in GP but now it is in NDE’.
Waswa Mylamba (26), who ran a clothing store on Willson Street, was killed after he was called to meet persons unknown in a field on Excelsior Drive near Dundee Junior School. He and his girlfriend drove to the meeting place at around 10.20pm on November 1. He was shot dead and his girlfriend loaded into his car which one of the gunmen drove towards the Helpmekaar road where she was dumped. She later managed to raise the alarm.
Last Saturday, November 11, Brian Braso Thompson (42) – also known as Sibongiseni Mpanza – a cousin to Endumeni Councillor Siduduzo Mdluli – died in a hail of bullets outside his Nxumalo Street home.
It was about 10.20pm when Braso and his girlfriend walked out of the house towards his BMW when a gunman opened fire with a 9mm firearm.
He was hit at least 10 times and numerous spent cartridges were found at the scene. Some of the rounds also struck his vehicle. He was taken to hospital by relatives but died en route.
Eager to get to the bottom of the latest round of killings, police are now offering a reward of up to R50 000 for information that will lead to the arrest of those responsible for both murders. Information can be telephoned through to the Detective office at 034 299 8200 or to 071 386 5684.
