The SAPS is coming down hard on sexual offenders, ensuring the community is kept safe from deviants.
During the June holidays in 2013, two boys aged nine and 12 years old were playing in oSizweni Section B, when they were approached by a 20-year-old man.
Apparently the man lured the boys into his house, forced them to watch a pornographic movie and then raped them. While the boys were threatened to keep quiet, one of the youngsters reported the matter to his father in October 2013.
The Newcastle Family Violence, Child Protection and Sexual Offences (FCS) Unit was informed and investigated the case.
The suspect was identified and arrested and his bail was successfully opposed.
The accused went on trial, and after four years, he was convicted last week in the Madadeni Regional Court.
He was sentenced to two life terms imprisonment, with a further three years imprisonment for showing pornographic material to children.
In a separate incident, a woman was raped on January 1, 2016.
She was apparently celebrating the dawn of the new year when she was approached by a man and two of his friends.
The men invited her to go celebrate with them. However, she denied the request, as she felt she had more than enough to drink already.
“They then offered her a lift to her residence, but didn’t go there. Instead they took her to a vacant building, where two of the men raped her,” said Captain Ncube.
The men then robbed the woman of her cell phone and cash, before assaulting her.
The victim managed to get to a house and asked for help. She reported the case and Newcastle FCS took over the investigation.

One of the suspects was arrested on January 31 and was officially linked to the case, but he refused to divulge who the other two suspects were and denied being involved in this case.
The accused was put on trial and was sentenced this week to life imprisonment for robbery, assault and rape.
In yet another incident, a man was sentenced to 25 years imprisonment for the rape of a 19-year-old woman.
The incident occurred on December 9, 2012.
While the woman was walking to a shop in Madadeni, a car containing three men stopped next to her, and the men instructed her to get in with them.
After giving her beer to drink, the driver took her to his uncle’s house in oSizweni and raped her.
The suspect apparently stopped raping the woman when his uncle banged on the bedroom door after hearing the victim scream for help. The girl reported the crime to her mother the next day and a case was opened.

After being investigated by the FCS, the man was put on trial. In a another incident which occurred in November 2015, a rapist was sentenced to 15 years imprisonment.
He had raped a 16-year-old girl at knife point. She had been looking for part time work at the time, and was forced into the perpetrator’s house.
The victim immediately reported the matter and the suspect was taken into custody.
He was sentenced last week by the Madadeni Regional Court, two years after the rape took place.
