Family speak about their shocking house robbery in Carbineer Road

The robbers searched for the alarm system and deactivated it by ripping all the wires apart

A family is shocked and devastated after their home was broken into and robbed yesterday morning (November 29) in Carbineer Road.

In an exclusive interview with the Ladysmith Gazette, they recall everything that happened…

The father and daughter were at home, together with an elderly gardener.

The gardener was trimming trees in the backyard. The father needed to go to the bank to use an ATM, so he took his teenage daughter with him.

He says that as he approached the front gate to open it, he noticed a silver Mercedes parked not far from his yard. He didn’t pay much attention to it and headed out to run his errands.

“I was out of the house for about 45 minutes and when I got back home, I noticed that my remote gate was open, as well as my front door gate and the door itself,” says the shocked resident.

The robbers searched for the alarm system and deactivated it by ripping all the wires apart.

They even tried to smash the “safe” open. When that didn’t work, they fled.

The elderly gardener didn’t even know what had happened. When the owner approached him, he said he was working in the backyard, which is a distance from the front yard and he hadn’t even been aware of the fact that the resident had left home to go to town.

The alarm was triggered when the robbers broke down the front door, but he thought the owner was at home.

An eyewitness saw two men running out of the house with huge television sets. They jumped into the silver Mercedes that had been parked in the street, and drove away.
