Residents have had their say about Newcastle’s worst roads.
An article featured online last week, asking for residents to point out our town’s most damaged streets.
Resident submissions as to the worst roads included:
- Marconi Drive,
- Stephenson Street,
- Harding Street,
- DF Malan and Frikkie Meyer intersection,
- Oak Street,
- Draper Street,
- St Thomas Street,
- Lincoln Street,
- Madadeni Section 7 and,
- oSizweni (near Theku Plaza) as having the worst roads.
The Advertiser also conducted a poll last Friday.
Poll results showed 61 per cent of the 132 residents who voted believed the worst roads were found in the residential and industrial areas.
These results were communicated to the municipality.
In a formal response, officials said the aforementioned roads were classified as periodic maintenance.
“Periodic maintenance covers activities on a section of road at regularly, and relatively long intervals.”
