A 59-year-old man faces murder charges after a woman and her teenage son were shot dead in Weenen.
On Wednesday, January 3, Weenen police were alerted to a shooting in the Ezintendeni area. On arrival at the scene, the officers discovered the bodies of a 45-year-old mother and her 15-year-old son.
It is alleged that both were shot after an argument between the woman and her husband.
The suspect, aged 59, handed himself over to police. Police seized an unlicensed firearm and ammunition.
The suspect faces two counts of murder, as well as charges of possession of an unlicensed firearm and ammunition.
He appeared in the Weenen Magistrate’s Court on Friday, January 5.
The deceased have not yet been officially identified.
