Beware of SASSA scam doing the rounds in Ladysmith

The elderly man trustingly verified his account number and pin code with the con-artist

Police are investigating a case of theft following an incident on Christmas Day where a 76-year-old man was scammed out of his pension money.

The elderly resident was at home when he allegedly received a call from an Indian woman who stated that she was employed at SASSA and was calling to verify his details.

The unsuspecting senior citizen trustingly verified his account number and pin code with her.

He later realised that he had been the target of a scam and that his pension money had been drawn from his card.

Police are appealing to the community to be aware of this scam and not to divulge any sensitive information over the phone to anyone.
