A 48-year-old licensed firearm owner and another suspect are in hot water with the law after the former allegedly reported a false case to the authorities.
On October 28 last year, a 48-year-old firearm owner reported to police that his licensed firearm had been stolen.
On January 5 this year, a 24-year-old man was arrested by police in Ekuvukeni after he was found in possession of the firearm in question.
Investigation brought to light allegations that the firearm owner had handed over the “stolen” firearm to the 24-year-old on December 31, months after having reported the gun stolen.

The 48-year-old was arrested and appeared in the Ekuvukeni Magistrate’s Court on January 10 on charges of defeating the course of justice. The 24-year-old appeared in the same court shortly after his arrest.
Both matters were remanded to today (16 January).
