Department of Water and Forestry officials visit Ladysmith to assess water and sewer problems

The DWAF members went to all major problem areas, as well as all the sewer pump stations in Ladysmith and also Steadville

Senior members from the Department of Water & Forestry (DWAF) were in Ladysmith last week to visit problem areas with regards to water and sewage.

The departmental representatives were brought into town by a local businessman who has had enough of the constant problems the town is facing. The DWAF members went to all major problem areas, as well as all the sewer pump stations in Ladysmith and also Steadville.

IFP councillor Abbas Warasally was requested to show them around and point out where things are going wrong.

One of the areas visited is next to the Why Waste business premises, where a burst water pipe has been leaking for the past few months and has not been attended to yet.

The water leak has created a mini dam, with crystal-clear drinking water gushing out day and night, and no sense of urgency in getting the problem fixed.

According to Cllr Warasally, a meeting will be held sometime soon between DWAF and uThukela about the numerous problems the town is facing on a daily basis.
