KwaZulu-Natal police conducted a one-month operation from December 1 to 31 last year, which led to the recovery of 162 unlicensed firearms and 1347 rounds of ammunition.
Pistols, rifles, homemade firearms and shotguns were among the various firearms that were seized.
207 suspects were arrested and charged for possession of unlicensed firearms.
All the firearms will be sent for ballistic testing to determine whether they were used in the commission of crimes in the country.
Arrests were made in Ladysmith, Msinga, Greytown, KwaMashu, Umlazi, Pietermaritzburg, Mpumalanga, Dundee, Empangeni, Jozini, Emanguzi, Ulundi and Nongoma.
The suspects have appeared in different magistrate’s courts.
