Responding to the residents’ concerns about the cause and repair of the water flow, the district municipality‘s Communications Manager Jabulani Mkhonza explained: “The level control indicators on the reservoirs were repaired some time back, but they have been vandalised again.”
“A requisition has been submitted for the repairs to the level control indicators. We are waiting for a service provider to be appointed to carry out the repairs.”
With regard to the water flooding properties, Mr Mkhonza said that an existing trench will be used.
“A trench was also excavated a number of years ago to divert overflow water away from the properties in Gilby Road. This trench has also been eroded and blocked with silt and our staff has been instructed to attend to clearing the trench which will alleviate the problem of water running into the properties while we are attending to the other repairs.”
