2 callous criminals sentenced for farm robbery near Ladysmith

One of the suspects attempted to commit a rape, but was unsuccessful

On December 15 last year, the Ladysmith Regional Court sentenced two accused to lengthy terms of imprisonment following a farm robbery in the Bergville area in 2015.

The two accused broke into the property on the evening of December 19, 2015, while the homeowners, aged 68 and 74, were asleep.

They overpowered them and tied them up.

One of the thugs attempted to rape the woman, but was unsuccessful.

The robbers stole items from the house and then fled in the homeowners’ vehicle.

They were arrested shortly afterwards.

The accused were convicted on December 14 last year and sentenced the following day.

The first accused, Philani Gerry Boy Mzolo (aged 30), was sentenced to three years’ imprisonment for housebreaking with intent to commit robbery, 15 years for robbery with aggravating circumstances, and five years for attempted rape.

The second accused, Msizi Maseveni Hlatshwayo (aged 27), was sentenced to three years for housebreaking with intent to commit robbery and 15 years for robbery with aggravating circumstances.
