Residents are been urged not to fall for a new scam artist who recently targeted Eventide.
The Afrikaans gentleman phoned the old age home yesterday, saying that he had a large donation of meat for them as his freezer has stopped working.
He continued to call and later asked manager, Karen Glasgow, to buy him a Sunday newspaper and four R275 Vodacom airtime vouchers. He promised to give her the money once she brought the stuff to the ‘farm’ to pick up the meat.
Later he phoned back, asking for the airtime pin, but they had not bought it as yet.
They then drove to the place where they were told to meet the man, but upon arriving, found no one there.
When they called him again, his number went straight to voicemail.
Other organisations have already fallen victim to the scam.
