Focus will shift to Estcourt this Thursday, as the four men implicated in the #CannibalismCase appear in court.
Charged with conspiracy to murder and murder, Nino Mbatha, Sithembiso Sithole, Lungisani Magubane and Khayelihle Lamula were refused bail by Magistrate Sookraj in the Estcourt Magistrate’s Court on December 14.

The defence failed to prove exceptional circumstances, in the interest of justice, for the suspects to be released.

After spending Christmas and New Year behind bars, the suspects will make another court appearance on January 25 when the matter will resume for further investigation. The four men have been accused of kidnapping and murdering at least one individual for muthi (traditional medicine) purposes.

Throughout the case, which began in August, there has been a strong outcry from the community who were described as ‘traumatised’ after traditional healer Nino Mbatha confessed to police that he was ‘tired of eating human flesh.’

Further investigations revealed gory finds, which included human body parts in jars and containers, DNA results of these are still being awaited. Initially seven men stood accused of the charges, three have since been released.
The remaining four will be back in the dock on Thursday.
