Update: UN soldier gets full military funeral after tragic murder / suicide attempt in DRC

Private Nomathemba Ngeleka, the 5SAI-UN soldier who was murdered by her boyfriend in the Eastern Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC) in October last year, had a full military funeral in November last year.

Private Ngeleka joined the South African army in 2011 and was based at 5 South African Infantry Battalion (5SAI) in Ladysmith.

On October 27 last year, her boyfriend is alleged to have shot and killed her before turning the gun on himself.

Ngeleka had been in a relationship with him for five years.

Both soldiers were rushed to a hospital in Goma, a major city in the DRC, where Private Ngeleka was declared dead on arrival. Her boyfriend is still in a critical condition in a DRC hospital.
