PREVIEW: Airport terminal project deadline lengthened until February

Work on the airport terminal project saw unexpected delays, resulting in the deadline being extended to the end of February.

The airport terminal project has been extended to the end of February.

Work on the new building was meant to be completed by December 8, 2017.

However, the deadline has since been moved up due to delays.

Director of Economic Development, Ferdie Alberts explained one delay was a brick shortage.

This resulted in the municipality agreeing to extend the project.

“Cancelling the project would have left us with no time to re-tender.”

The KZN Department of Provincial Treasury also made project management staff available to Newcastle.

These staff are now on site three days a week.

“Finishing of a project generally takes longer. Yet I believe we will be done by the end of February,” Alberts added.
