Council speaks about march against corruption and service delivery in Ladysmith

After the gathering, the marchers dispersed peacefully

Community members marched this morning (February 1) against corruption and service delivery in Ladysmith. They gathered at the Kandahar Avenue sports ground, before making their way through several streets in the CBD.

The chanting of slogans and songs being sung could be heard echoing through the streets as the marchers made their way towards the Town Hall and loudly aired their grievances.

A large presence of police and Public Safety were on scene to make sure things did not get out of hand.

In a message sent out on social media, municipal communications officer Siyabonga Maphalala stated, “On behalf of council, we would like to thank municipal management and council leadership for the smooth co-operation with the organisers of the strike.”

A memorandum was delivered and Mayor Vincent Madlala responded to all matters raised.

After the gathering, the marchers dispersed peacefully.
