Bursaries valued at over R600 000 have been awarded to learners to register for admission to tertiary institutions where they have been accepted.
More than 160 learners from Inkosi Langalibalele Local Municipality received signed letters confirming that they have qualified for this assistance on January 26. This financial assistance is aimed at helping learners to register with recognised tertiary institutions in South Africa to further careers of their choice.

This is one way in which the local municipality strives to open doors of learning and culture to historically disadvantaged learners, as stipulated in the Freedom Charter adopted in 1955. The Mayor Jabulile Mbele congratulated each and every learner and emphasised that it was a privilege for her to personally hand over the bursaries.
While speaking to them she said: “Education is the only opportunity that can change your lives for the better.”
She further stressed that all recipients have worked very hard to qualify for the registration assistance, and since they will be going to universities of their choice, it is important not to forget where they come from.
Good behaviour was emphasised as the Mayor concluded her address and urged beneficiaries to be hungry for success. Mrs Mbele took the opportunity to congratulate all of the recipients of this municipal registration assistance and wished them well in their new environment.
