Mayor, Richard Mbatha met today with angry Forestdale community members, after they blocked roads and burnt tyres yesterday.

The Mayor, who was joined by Eric Kemp from the Department of Human Settlements, Lwazi Cindi, Technical Services Manager and Zaf Khan from Anderson Vogt, aimed to quell the community’s anger and give them feedback regarding the housing project.
Community members were angered by what they said were ‘broken promises over the building of houses in Forestdale’.

The Mayor assured residents that there was no corruption at play, and that the municipality was merely following all the processes when it came to the appointment of a contractor and the building of houses. He added that the funding agreement for stage three was only signed on January 15 this year, and that the municipality was procuring a service provider to continue with the building of houses.
Angry community members demanded a date for when the house would be built.
Lwazi Cindi, Technical Services Manager, said that the whole project, including the building of houses, would take 12 months and that by January 15, 2019, all 217 houses would be completed.
Though this appeased some, many felt that it was another false promise from the municipality.
