
As part of the first phase in a long-term crime prevention initiative, police and social workers from the Department of Social Development swooped on Forbes Street on Friday (March 9) to address concerns by the public about underage prostitution. A 17-year-old boy was one of those interviewed by police during the operation.

People have expressed shock at the number of prostitutes who seem to be taking over Forbes Street, and have complained about young girls being involved in prostitution. What about young boys?
During Friday’s operation, 17 people were interviewed, including a 17-year-old boy.
The teenager was removed and is being assisted in terms of the Child Care Act.
Other crime prevention operations have been planned in the same area in the near future.
