THERE’S an old joke about potholes that says, “In South Africa, we used to drive on the left of the road. Now we drive on what’s left of the road.”

Utrecht Street, in the stretch between, Deputation and Republic Streets has been a motorist’s nightmare in recent times, with the busy school road, closely resembling the impact site of a mild meteorite shower, dreadfully riddled with perilous potholes.

Parents of schoolgoing children, who utilise this road on a daily basis when dropping off and collecting their children from school, as well as motorists who commute along this hazardous stretch of asphalt, may be pleased to know that the team of pothole patchers from AbaQulusi Municipality were recently spotted carrying out repairs to the area.
