PREVIEW: Are Newcastle’s street lights leaving residents in the dark?

With numerous street lights reported out this week, the question must be asked: how will the municipality handle the situation?

Despite efforts to stave off the darkness, street lights remain a problem.

In a previous interview, the municipality confirmed a team was assembled to handle lighting-related complaints.

Yet numerous areas remained in the dark.

One example was a section of Sutherland Street, between the Kirkland and Murchison Street crossings.

Almost all the lights on this stretch were reported out this week.

In addition, residents of Jenkyn and Paterson Streets came forward at the end of February.

They said street lights in their area were also not working.
