
The three suspects who were accused of viciously assaulting a resident with a panga on July 19, 2015, have finally been sentenced to a total of 15 years behind bars.

According to Newcastle SAPS Corporate Communications and Liaison Officer, Captain Jabulani Ncube, the victim was walking in his yard when a group of people grabbed him and assaulted him with a panga.
“The suspects then took money, cellphones and a motorbike and fled the scene.”
Police were summoned and the suspects were located, arrested, charged and kept in police custody for the duration of the court case.

On March 14, 2018, the Madadeni Regional Court convicted and sentenced the three men, after they were found guilty of house robbery and assault with the intent of causing grievous bodily harm.
“All three of the accused were also declared unfit to possess a firearm,” he concluded.
