Three years of waiting and enduring emotional pain came to an end for the widow and family of Ladysmith-based Pastor Hamilton Zulu after the three men who brutally killed him were handed lengthy jail sentences.
The three accused – 32-year-old Themba Vusimuzi Mbehele (also known as Maputo), Nala Dlamini (27) and Aphiwe Mtwane (20) – appeared in the Dundee Regional Court and their sentences were handed down by Magistrate Nkosi.
The three accused were convicted of the murder on March 17, 2015.
The killers were posing as hitchhikers when Pastor Hamilton Zulu of the Ladysmith Salvation Army stopped to give them a lift outside Dundee. Pastor Zulu also picked up another hitchhiker, Jabulani Kheswa, whom the men later stabbed and threw out of the car, leaving him for dead along the Nquthu road.
Pastor Zulu’s badly decomposed body was recovered on March 24, 2015, near Uelzen School on Sunset Rest Road.
