Two suspects, aged 26 and 29 years old respectively, were arrested after the oSizweni Crime and Newcastle Cluster Task Team members conducted an Intelligence Driven Operation in oSizweni.

According to Captain Jabulani Ncube of Newcastle SAPS Corporate Communications and Liaison Department, it was believed the SAPS members were patrolling along Jakalaas Span Road, when they arrested the two men.
“Police recovered 10 full Mandrax Star tablets, estimated at a street value of around R2 000 in the suspects’ possession.”
Both suspects will appear at the Madadeni Magistrate’s Court soon.
Investigations continue.

What is methaqualone (Mandrax)?
According to reports, South Africa was considered the largest abuser of Mandrax throughout the world.
This was due to the fact that Mandrax mixed with dagga, remained the preferred drug of choice among South African drug abusers.
