UPDATE: Further delays mar road rehab project in Papkuilsfontein

According to Inkosi Langalibalele Local Municipality another challenge has been met at this point

More than a month ago, the local municipality began a project to alleviate flooding on a road in Papkuilsfontein.
It’s been a project riddled with challenges and still is.

When the municipal staff started the project, a deep trench was dug across the road, obstructing motorists, pedestrians and some residents from gaining entry to their yards.

A week later a heavy downpour resulted in the collapse of a resident’s wall as well as massive damage to the family home due to the water flowing directly into the yard.

Three weeks later and the road has been haphazardly cleared for motorists and pedestrians to pass and the deep trench has been covered. However, four manholes remain open. According to Inkosi Langalibalele Local Municipality another challenge has been met at this point.

“There has been a major delay from our suppliers for all the required material. We have addressed the matter and closed the trench, we now only await the other material to construct the manhole covers,” said the municipality’s communication department.

Until then, children and animals are exploring the confines of the uncovered manholes.
