A 35-year-old police constable was injured in a shoot-out after police descended on a murder suspect’s house in Steadville in the early hours of Thursday morning (March 29).
Detectives stationed at the Ladysmith K9 Unit were following up on information when they swooped on a house where it was believed that a suspected murderer was staying with his family.
Upon identifying themselves and being granted access to the premises, the officers entered a rondaval and were met with gunfire. The officers retaliated and a gun battle ensued.

A police constable sustained a gunshot wound to the leg.
A 52-year-old suspect was arrested and is facing charges of murder and attack on police.
He is expected to appear in the Ladysmith Magistrate’s Court early this week.
