Newcastle SAPS is investigating a case of business burglary after a Newcastle PEP Store branch was robbed.
According to SAPS, the robbery occurred in the early hours between March 31 to April 1.

“The robbers allegedly gained access through the roof after which they made off with cash of R100 000, and electronics to the value of R400 000. Five suspects aged between 28 to 38 were arrested,” she confirmed.
Following the robbery, on April 6, Constables Mdaki and Mncube from the Amajuba Cluster Task Team recovered 424 brand new Nokia 1005 cellphones.
Two more suspects, a manager at PEP stores and a local shop owner, were arrested.
It is alleged the PEP manager sold the cellphones in question to the shop owner for R20 000; more than half of the estimated value of the cellphones.
The arrests also lead to the seizing of a vehicle which was allegedly used to transport the stolen goods.

The two suspects, aged 32 and 40, are currently in police custody and appeared before the Newcastle Magistrate’s Court for bail application yesterday.
