Officers from the Ezakheni Detective Service recovered R1,000,000 worth of dagga on Monday night (April 9) after stopping a bakkie along Helpmekaar Road.
The officers were busy tracing wanted suspects when they noticed that the driver of a bakkie was driving suspiciously, which led them to believe that the motorist was under the influence of alcohol.
The vehicle was stopped and on further investigation, it was established that the bakkie was laden with bags of dagga.

The recovered dagga weighed in at over 700kg, with a street value of about R1,000,000.
The driver (35) of the vehicle, who was alone at the time, will face a charge of dealing in dagga. The suspect appeared in the Ezakheni Magistrate’s Court on Tuesday (April 10).
The vehicle has since been impounded.

The KwaZulu-Natal Acting Provincial Commissioner, Major General Bheki Langa, commended the officers for the massive dagga haul.
“These operations will continue throughout the province in the fight against drug peddlers,” he said.
