Trucks hijacked and drivers assaulted by police impersonators on the N3

The hijackers proceeded to steal 10 wheels from both of the trucks, as well as diesel from one of the trucks and batteries from the other

Two trucks were hijacked between Ladysmith and Colenso in the early hours of this morning (April 21).

The harrowing ordeal started at approximately 3am this morning on the N3 near Estcourt when two truck drivers were stopped by police impersonators.

They were assaulted and abducted.

The trucks were then driven to the top of Onderbroek Spruit on the R103.

The hijackers proceeded to steal 10 wheels from both of the trucks, as well as diesel from one of the trucks and batteries from the other.

Herman Harvennga from Berg Security alerted emergency services after being contacted by the owner to investigate the two missing vehicles.

The number of suspects is unknown at this point.

The assaulted drivers refused medical care at the scene, but the owner will be taking them to be examined.

The owner will be opening a case with the SAPS.
