Police officer robbed and stabbed in Ladysmith

Gunshots were fired by a police officer who was attacked and robbed in the Soofie Mosque area

Gunshots echoed through the night sky on Tuesday (May 1), with motorists and bystanders in the Soofie Mosque area wondering what was going on.

A 47-year-old police officer fired the gunshots during a scuffle with an assailant who attacked and robbed him.

The officer sustained stab wounds during the attack.

Police were called out to the scene and arrested a 27-year-old suspect.

The suspect is set to appear in the Ladysmith Magistrate’s Court today (May 3).

He faces a charge of robbery.

“I was alarmed and fearful when I heard two gunshots ring out,” a bystander commented.
