The Vryheid Herald was informed that official comment on the incident could only be issued by officials at the prison's Head Office, due to the sensitivity of the case.

NCOME officials have still not brought forward official comment regarding the matter of an inmate that was allegedly beaten up by a warden while in a cell.

Siyanda Ngobese contacted the Vryheid Herald saying that he had been beaten up at the prison and that he had been so badly injured, he had to be hospitalised after the incident.

The Vryheid Herald was informed that official comment on the incident could only be issued by officials at the prison’s Head Office, due to the sensitivity of the case. However, no comment as yet been received.

An official who wished to remain anonymous said that Mr Ngobese and some of his fellow inmates were suspected of hiding marijuana, cellphones and other small devices in their cell and, when wardens tried to raid the cell, the inmates resisted and a scuffle broke out.
