PREVIEW: Rahil Samlal is taking his scientific finds to America

Rahil Samlal has grabbed attention with his ambitious science project, which could change the way future generations approach medication.

Budding scientist, Rahil Samlal is en route to Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania.

17-year-old Rahil will represent his country alongside at the 2018 Intel International Science and Engineering Fair.

This takes place in America from May 13 onward.

Rahil’s ambitious science project has earned him numerous accolades and a ticked to Sweden later this year.

His efforts could change the way future generations approach medication.

The project started with a focus question and rationale on antibiotic resistance and the lack of access to effective antibiotics.

Cost and lack of access often made diseases hard to treat.

A St Dominic’s Newcastle learner, Rahil said rural communities often had to travel vast distances for medicine and treatment.

He also focused on over-use of antibiotics.
