Watch: Ladysmith runners among the thousands taking on this year’s Comrades Marathon

This year's race is a down-run from Pietermaritzburg to Durban, with the finish line being at the Moses Mabhida Stadium

This year’s 93rd Comrades Marathon is in full swing, with runners taking to the road early this morning (June 10).

Many runners from Ladysmith are also part of the action, looking to clock their best possible times.

This year’s race is a down-run from Pietermaritzburg to Durban, with the finish line being at the Moses Mabhida Stadium.

Bongumusa Mthembu has again lifted the South African flag high after winning the men’s race of this ultra-marathon in an impressive time of 5:26.35.

Gauteng runner Ann Ashworth won the women’s race in a time of 6:10.04. Ashworth is the founder of the Massmart Running Club, a women-only running team launched in October last year.
