#MotoringMonday – which production car is the world’s fastest?

If you were asked about the fastest production car in the world, would you know the answer or guess some foreign model?

Here’s an icebreaker – what is the world’s fastest production car?

A fiery Lamborghini perhaps, the fearsome Bugatti or perhaps a more obscure name?

We won’t reveal the answer quite yet.

Firstly: let’s go over what determines a production car and who holds the title of ‘fastest’?

In general, these kinds of vehicles are mass-produced and considered street legal.

Legislation may differ from country to country however.

As for speed tests, these have been standardised due to there being no central authority.

However, the following criterion is required for a test to be considered:

The test must take the form of an independent two-way road test.

An average speed is then calculated across these runs.

So now the all-important question – which production car is fastest?

The current record-holder is the Koenigsegg Agera RS, which posted a formidable 447.19 kilometres per hour (277.87 miles per hour).

This speed was posted in November of 2017.

However, the Agera’s position at the top might not be so safe.

American tuning company, Hennessey Performance Engineering believes its Venom F5 could be close to the 300mph mark.

Its Venom GT already clocked 435.31km/h in a single direction run in 2014.

What of the Bugatti Veyron, you ask?

It was the fastest 2010 until late 2017, holding a record of 415 km/h.
