Competition got underway early on Saturday morning.

A total of 49 boats and 98 anglers set out, ready to spend the day chasing the biggest catch and the grand prize of R25 000.

“By 5pm, the day’s fishing was over and the overall feeling was that it was a real challenge – tough fishing but everyone had a great time,” said organisers.

Anglers gathered on Saturday evening for a braai, and were sure to get to bed early ahead of a fresh start on a misty Sunday morning.

This led to a delayed start to proceedings.

“Another hard day’s fishing, but overall a good day with bigger fish being caught.”

A total of 41,62 kilogrammes of fish were caught throughout the competition, and organisers then had to crown the winners.

Congratulations to the following:

Winner for the biggest bass and the R25 000 prize: Shane Estrane of Team Venom (2.5kg)

Second place for the biggest bass: Christo van Rheede (2.38kg)

Third place for the biggest bass: Allan Branfield (2.37kg)

The prize for the biggest bag of fish went to Shane Estrane and Jonathan Kirk of Team Venom, whose bag weighed in at 13.36kg.

“A big thank you to each angler who entered; thank you for all the laughs and conversation.”
