Drakensview Primary School is making history fun

Many of this group of learners had never visited the museum before, so the opportunity of seeing life-sized mammals, primates, birds and snakes was exciting

To end off a busy term the Learners with Special Educative Needs (LSEN) and grade four classes at Drakensview Primary School enjoyed exciting outings. After spending much time learning about South Africa – tourism, industry and history, the LSEN class set off to visit the Museum in Pietermaritzburg.

They explored the Freedom Display and then went hunting for the Big Five in the main hall. Many of this group of learners had never visited the museum before, so the opportunity of seeing life-sized mammals, primates, birds and snakes was exciting.

They then travelled to the Howick Falls to have their much planned picnic. Afterwards it was on to the Nelson Mandela Capture Site. The grade fours have spent this term learning about local history including the life of Nelson Mandela.

They had their turn to visit the Capture Site and learn more about the first president of our democratic country.
The Long Walk to Freedom pathway to the sculpture was a highlight as they all tried to see his image.

After all the hard work at the Capture Site, the classes relaxed and filled their tummies at the Howick Falls.
How lucky are these learners to be given the opportunity of seeing what they have learnt about?
