A total lunar eclipse is said to appear from July 27 to 28. Some are claiming this to be the longest lunar eclipse of the century and we will be able to view the whole thing right here in Kwa-Zulu-Natal.
The name of this eclipse is the Micro Blood Moon Eclipse as on the day of the eclipse, the moon will be at its furthest from the Earth making it appear smaller to the eye. The moon, on the day, will also have a reddish-orange colour, giving it the name Micro Blood Moon.

Mars will be easily visible with the naked eye, if the weather permits, as it will be extremely close to the moon for the duration of the eclipse.
From Durban, the eclipse is said to start on July 27 at 19:14:47 and end on July 28 at 01:28:38. The eclipse will be at its most visible on the 27th at 22:21:44. The whole eclipse is said to be visible from Durban, if the weather permits.
It is said that an eclipse never comes alone, there could be two or three in a row. Before a lunar eclipse, a solar eclipse appears first.
The first eclipse that appeared was a solar eclipse that took place on July 13. It was a partial eclipse and also visible from Durban. This eclipse lasted a few hours and began at 03:48:23 and ended at 06:13:44.
The lunar eclipse will follow on the 27th and the eclipse season will end with another partial solar eclipse on August 11, which will also be visible here in Kwa-Zulu-Natal, this eclipse will start at 10:02:08 and end at 13:30:40.
All three will be visible from right here in Kwa-Zulu-Natal, so get your star gazing equipment ready and prepare for a marathon of eclipses.
