UPDATE: IFP duo and co-accused’s case ready for trial

Control Prosecutor Bongeka Hlatshwayo announced that the case is ready for trial and will be moved to the Estcourt Regional Court

Earlier this morning Inkatha Freedom Party (IFP) Councillor Mthembeni Majola, Endumeni (Dundee) Local Municipality Mayor Richard Mbatha and alleged hit man, Xolani Makhathini reappeared in the Estcourt Magistrate’s Court.

Just after 10am their case (two counts of conspiracy to commit murder each) got underway. Control Prosecutor Ms Bongeka Hlatshwayo announced that the case is ready for trial and will be moved to the Estcourt Regional Court.

She added that their first regional court appearance will be on September 10.

Advocate Mlotshwa, representing Endumeni Mayor Mr Mbatha placed on record that he would not be available on the day and asked that Advocate Kay Augustine, representing Mr Majola and Mr Makhathini stand-in for him and represent all three men, to which she agreed and confirmed.

Magistrate Sam Mpungose made note of this and wished the accused all the best.

Mr Mpungose granted the postponement and said that the men’s bail will be extended until September 10.
