Partnership produces success in Loskop

Five people have been arrested and charged, one person for murder, after an intelligence driven operation unfolded in Loskop recently.

Joining forces, members from the Uthukela South African Police Service (SAPS) Cluster Task Team, Ladysmith Crime Intelligence Gathering Unit, Amangwe SAPS, Newcastle Public Order Unit, and South African National Defence Force descended on the area.

From information secured, they arrested five people, three males and two females.

“One person was arrested on a charge of murder. The incident took place during December 2017 and the suspect has been evading detective since,” said police spokesperson Warrant Officer Basheer Khan.

In addition to the arrests, police recovered a 9mm pistol and eight rounds of ammunition as well as loose dagga that weighed 63 kilograms and has an estimated street value of R95 000.

“The pistol had its serial number filed off. The recovered firearm will be subject to ballistic testing. The suspects appeared in the Estcourt Magistrate’s Court where they faced charges of murder of possession of an unlicensed firearm and ammunition as well as possession of dagga,” added W/O Khan.
