Possible armed robbery foiled by police

Investigation later revealed that the vehicle had false plates and was stolen

Bergville Police received information of a possible armed robbery.

This occurred on Monday evening ( August 13).

It was alleged that a business  had been targeted for a possible robbery and this caused Officers to be on  alert.

At 5.00pm more  information came through that a suspicious vehicle with four male occupants was parked on the main street in front of a bank.

The vehicle, a white Hyundai, and its occupants were observed and it took off a bit later.

Officers then  followed it and as it left the town area they stopped it.

Investigation later revealed that the vehicle had false plates  and it had been stolen in Gauteng recently.

All four suspects have been arrested and will be charged for being in possession of suspected stolen property.

They will be profiled by police before facing a magistrate.

Okhalamba Local Municipality issued a statement on this incident,

“Earlier this evening, through a joint operation between our Fire & Emergency Services and the Bergville SAPS, Detectives Unit, a breakthrough was made in recovering a stolen vehicle (stolen from Gauteng) and effecting 5 arrests. We would like to commend the teams for such swift action!”
