Swift recovery of livestock in Winterton

The owner was not aware that her stock had been stolen

Stolen stock was recovered in Winterton on Thursday (August 16) after Winterton police intercepted and stopped a Toyota Fortuner in the town’s CBD. The vehicle was pulling a trailer which was laden with five cattle.

Upon interviewing the driver of the vehicle and requesting documentation, it was soon established by the officers that the stock had been stolen.

The animals had been stolen from a farm in Harrismith in the Free State.

The driver of the vehicle was arrested.

Officers from the Harrismith Stock Theft Unit were contacted and the branding of the cattle were sent through to them. They were able to trace the owner, who was available and identified her stock.

The owner was not aware that her stock had been stolen.

The arrested suspect, as well as the stock, was handed over to Harrismith police to process.
